BMW is a German automobile manufacturer.
Challenge
The company is well-known for its collaborations with contemporary artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and others. For the presentation of the Z4 Roadster, photographer Lorenzo Agius was invited. My task was to adapt his creative concept and paint the car.

I was provided with a photograph of a woman and a request to integrate the image with Vologda lace. This combination did not naturally align with the sporty character of the car, making it challenging to create a cohesive design.

Solution
To emphasize the visual dynamism of the car’s form, we painted it in a black-to-gray gradient. The various elements were unified through a layered composition that combined background, the image, fabric patterns, and lace design.
Time constraints were tight. A key managerial decision was to combine airbrush techniques with traditional brushwork, allowing six artists to work simultaneously on the car and meet the deadline.
Result
From a technical standpoint, the project was unique. The brushwork involved creating over a million fine “stitches” of Vologda lace.
The car was featured in the presentation of the new Z4 Roadster. Christian Kremer, President of BMW Group Russia, attended the event. Afterward, the car became the centerpiece of Lorenzo Agius’s photography exhibition. For a month, the art car was displayed in central Moscow on Stoleshnikov Lane.
